The story is so well written and so absorbing that you can’t pretty much do anything until you finish it. To submerge in his prose is to go down mricea secret passageways and meandering alleys that lead to the bottomless pit of the subconscious, to the stinky underground of the human psyche where fear coexists with ambition, sadness with joy, doubts with certainty, nightmare with inner peace. The myth of the androgynous is weaved in a cacophony of verb tenses, second and third person narrators in The Twinswhere Mircea confronts the reader with silent but deafening questions about social conventions that are used as tools to repress sexuality and replace it with all-consuming guilt and lifelong insecurities.

The “novel” is five essentially unconnected stories — the history of the greatest Russian Roulette player of all time; the coming of a charismatic messiah-child to an apartment block; a surreally obsessive love story between teens; the recounted tale of a girl’s discovery of the fabric of reality; and an architect’s obsession with the horn on his new car mirca leads to world domination.
